I have spent 72 hours learning about Facebook audience insight, because, it is crucial to craft a robust ad in order to reach maximum people in the advertising process.

If I want to reach my target audience before an ad start advertising on Facebook it worth to learn about it. And if I receive encouraging response my hard working will be paid off.

What is a Facebook audience insight?

Facebook audience insight is a tool created by Facebook for its user to improve their ad results to reach the people that matter to their business.

It will help you to study your target audience details like, their age, gender, purchase behavior, and locations. The idea behind this tool is, the more information you have about your customers the more successful and meaningful ads can create with a meaningful message.

You will able to study with Facebook audience insight two groups of people

1. People connected to your page

2. People on Facebook

The Insight information will help you to create contents filled with powerful effect and value, it will be easy for you to find more people like the ones in your current audience.

Case study

Consider you have a spa and you want to raise awareness of your branch, encourage people to enjoy your service, Facebook audience insight will provide you an exact number of people live near your spa, as well as their interest, their past purchase services or past purchase behavior overall, and how they tend to use a service or shop online or in store.

This tool is designed to provide you with aggregate information such as Age, gender, lifestyle, education, relationship status, job role, their language, and location.

You can learn about people’s interest and hobbies.

Through demographics you can compare your audience to everyone on Facebook to discover their unique characteristics.

When you read demographics you can click through blue and gray tabs to learn about their interests and behaviors.

Facebook audience insight will empower you with the information of three different groups of people.

  • General Facebook audience

  • People following your page or people who liked your page

  • People they are your current customers and they might like more information about future offers.

After you have gained information about your audience you should save this data for future use, it will be available in your ads Manager Audience section.

How to use Facebook audience insight?

Facebook audience insight will help you to learn trends about your existing customers as well as potential future customers across the Facebook.


The audience insight page has been divided into two sections, Left side of the page you have options to create your audience location, age, interest, connections like people connected to your page or people not connected to your page.

The second side of the page shows graphs and charts related to your audience and it will also show the comparison between everyone on Facebook vs. Target audience for your ad



So if you want to tailor your ad and search more target audience you should

1. Go to audience insight dashboard in your ad manager account

Or go to

facebook.com/ads/audience_insights

2. Select audience by clicking new audience

You will have choice, everyone on Facebook audience or people already following your page or connected to your page

This will help you to define your audience

3. Under location section

select cities where your store is located.

4. You might choose custom audience.

Custom audience will allow you to get the insight of specific people like your subscribers.

5. Move to the filter that will provide age group

select target age suitable for your product and services

6. After you have selected age, the filter will lead you to select gender like everyone on Facebook, or women or men or all

7. After you have selected specific gender other side of the graph will allow you to select their education, such as college students, working women or housewives

8. Look at demographics, this will allow you to select unique characteristics of your audience.



9. Select lifestyle to learn about your audience interest based on their purchase behavior, like some people like to buy beauty products or looking for furniture

10. Select like pages it will help you to learn a variety of interests in tv shows

11. Select purchase behavior to learn about audience likely to buy online or in store, you will have complete data comparing people online retail spending vs. in store consumers, for me, I like to buy in store, I am sure my Facebook data are showing this to advertisers in my area.

Audience insight will give you information about a group of people anonymously without violating the privacy of any individual. Audience insight is different than page insight, page insight will help you to learn people interacting with your page, which is, like, comments and shares.
